In 1988 at the age of 2.5 years I was diagnosed with a kidney tumor. After failing several operations and treatments it was decided the best option was to remove the left kidney and undergo chemotherapy for 6 months. After a heavy operation and intense treatment I was cured of cancer for good. In return for life (due to chemotherapy) I lost my hearing in 1989 and developed cardiac complications in 1999. I will never forget the day I was sitting in the office, staring strait into the eyes of the doctor, clinging onto hope for life, waiting to hear weather I would live or die… A moment later words were spoken “Paul, you have just under two years to live…” For the next two years I battled through life striving to do everything I could to stay alive but everything was downhill. Between 1999 and 2001 I suffered from Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and several times Pneumonia. Finally a special day came on 01 October 2001 in the early hours of the morning. I received a phone call to say a NEW HEART has arrived. A few long hours later I was lying on the hospital bed with…

a new heart
a new life
a new beginning

It is the reason I am at university today studying to become the best fitness instructor, the best cardiac rehab specialist, the best dietitian i can be. It is the reason I have started this blog.
